Why AGENT VINOD Is A Big Disappointment?
There are efforts from section of media and few “lobbyist” cum critics to save the face of Sridhar Raghavan and his directed fiasco “Agent Vinod”. But as they say, numbers don’t lie!
Table below shows business of last few releases of Saif Ali Khan. He is clearly not a big star as SRK, Aamir, Akshay or Salman but still he delivered a clean super hit in “Love Aaj Kal” as solo hero which did a lifetime business of around 68-70 cr but with rather smaller print counts in comparison to “Agent Vinod”.
“Love Aaj Kal” was released couple of years ago and screen count has gone up and so the potential of doing business for the film. That is why this opening of “Agent Vinod’ is not only dismal but also tells that content (or rather bad content) was responsible for these sub standard figures which neither appealed to classes in multiplexes nor impressed masses in single screens.
Comparison of business of Saif Ali Khan’s last few releases -
| Film | Opening Weekend |
| Agent Vinod | 28.55 cr |
| Aarakshan | 17.90 cr |
| Kurbaan | 12.60 cr |
| Love Aaj Kal | 28.90 cr |
Economics Of AGENT VINOD –
| Investments | |
| Budget | 50 cr |
| Promotion & Advertising | 12 cr |
| Total Cost Of The Project | 62 cr |
| Revenue | |
| Satellite Right | 20 cr |
| Music Right | 9.6 cr |
| Brand Tie - Up | 1.8 cr |
| Total Recovery (Pre Release) | 31.4 cr |
| Balance Amount Remaining To Break Even | 30.6 cr |
Now film has to recover 30 plus cr from cinemas and home video which looks tough after excluding distributor share. It will be surely a loss making project for all in the chain – distributors, producers and exhibitors. With such an huge investment of 62 cr, one expects film to generate at least 25 % profit.
