Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Special 26’ was one of the best films of 2013, and now South Indian actor-filmmaker Thiagarajan has grabbed the opportunity to helm the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada remakes of the film.
Thiagarajan has bought the remake rights of the film from Viacom18 Motion Pictures. The filmmaker also has the remake rights of ‘Queen’.
In a statement Thiagarajan said, “This time, I grabbed the golden opportunity of remaking ‘Special 26' in all four south Indian languages and I will have the honour of directing this mammoth movie in all four south Indian languages.”
He is happy that ‘Special 26’ won accolades, acclaim and awards as well as it was a successful at the box-office.
In the Tamil remake Prashant will be portraying the role AkshayKumar and Prakash Raj will be stepping in Manoj Bajpayee’s shoes. Satyaraj will play Anupam Kher’s role and the other cast are Nasser, Shyaji Shinde, M S Baaskar, Rao Ramesh, Brammaji and Thulasi.
Talking about the remakes, Ajit Andhare, COO of Viacom 18 Motion Pictures said, “’Special 26' is an intelligent entertainer. The film is based on true events which makes it universally appealing across languages. We’re confident that our film will excite audiences in the South the same way that the original material did.”
