It is commonly said that sex and songs sell in Bollywood. This is seen by the recent success of risqué films like ‘Grand Masti’ and ‘B.A Pass’.

However, production companies are now asking the directors to tone down the love scenes and offensive language from the films. This is because adult content of the film affects the producers to losing satellite rights money.

Films with adult content are usually screened in the post 11 pm slot, which is not a lucrative slot for advertising and as hence it does not fetch big bucks for these films.

Usually the sale of satellite rights accounts for almost 40% of a film's earnings.

A close source reveals, "Sujoy Ghosh has been signed by Viacom 18 for a love story but on a pre-condition that there will be no scenes which could get the film an A certificate."

Other examples include Mahesh Bhatt's banner which has produced many erotic films, including the ‘Raaz’ and ‘Murder’ franchise.

Mahesh Bhatt’s brother Mukesh says, "We started the clean-up act with ‘Aashiqui 2’. Satellite rights cannot be compromised as they play a huge role in our business."
