When the actor was asked if he is disappointed as his favourite Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone didn’t win an Oscar, he said, "I was in Abu Dhabi when the Oscars took place so I was not following it. But when I learnt Stallone didn't win I was disappointed. But it is okay. Stallone is an underdog. John Abraham is also an underdog." When he was probed further on what made him call himself an underdog, John said, "I like being underdog. I have liked playing that role. I have been influenced by the films where you always root for underdog. I know that my audience will always root for me. In an industry which has so many support systems, my only support is my audience. I think that is the big thing. After my first film, I was told to go back, but now I have been here for almost 14 years now. It is the audience na sir. The minute I think I have arrived, I will pat my back. I love the struggle."
