Music Review: DIL DHADAKNE DO Has An Exceptional Album Of Classy Urban Songs

Tuesday, 2nd June 2015, 1:15 PM IST Music Composers: Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy Lyricist: Javed Akhtar After ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, Zoya Akhtar is back with the multi-starrer ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’. The movie will be hitting the screens on coming Friday and stars Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma and Farhan Akhtar. The music of the film is out, so let’s see what’s there in store for us. The album starts with the title track ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’. It’s a foot-tapping number with drum beats which gets a feel of jazz in the track. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy takes us into a refreshing mood with the track. The song is sung by Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar. While Priyanka’s voice impresses us, Farhan’s voice is strictly okay. He should stick to acting and direction, and forget singing. Javed Akhtar’s lyrics are commendable. Ratings: 3.5/5 Nowadays romantic tracks are slow and soulful. But the next song in the album titled ‘Pehli Baar’ changes the trend. It’s a romantic number with funky and high-on-energy beats. However, the drum beats in the track gets a bit repetitive. Sukriti Kakar and Siddharth Mahadevan’s vocals are amazing in the song, and Javed Akhtar’s lyrics are once again impressive. Ratings: 3.5/5 Moving forward comes in ‘Gallan Goodiyaan’, a fantastic foot-tapping number. The Punjabi beats and the desi feel in the track are mind-blowing. You will start dancing automatically while listening to this song. It is surely one of the best dance numbers of current times. What impresses us a lot is that the song has a desi feel, but still manages to be classy. Yashita Sharma, Manish Kumar Tipu, Farhan Akhtar, Shankar Mahadevan and Sukhwinder Singh – all have sung the track fantastically, except Farhan as we earlier said he should stop singing. This is the best song of the album. Ratings: 4.5/5 Next comes in ‘Girls Like To Swing’, once again a foot-tapping song, but with jazz music in it. The music is a bit similar to ‘Calcutta Kiss’ from ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy’ which proves to be a negative point for the song. However, Sunidhi Chauhan’s voice saves the track and takes it to a better level. If you enjoy jazz numbers then this one’s surely for you. Ratings: 2.5/5 The last song in the album is ‘Phir Bhi Yeh Zindagi’. It’s a soulful number with lyrics that touches our heart. The hero of this song is the lyrics. Hats off to Javed Akhtar for writing such great lyrics. The track is sung by Farhan Akhtar, Vishal Dadlani, Divya Kumar, Alyssa Mendonsa and Sapna Pathak. All the singers (Farhan an exception in this track as well) have sung the track wonderfully. Ratings: 3.5/5 On the whole, ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ has an exceptional album of classy urban songs.
