Wednesday, 11th January 2017, 18:31 PM IST Akshay Kumar’s ‘Gold’ with Reema Kagti at the helm is produced by Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment. The movie is a biopic set in 1948 and Akshay plays the role of Balbir Singh, an Indian Hockey player of the team that won gold medals in 1948, 1952, and 1956. Rumor has it that Farhan was asked to play the parallel lead in the film but he turned down the offer because he doesn’t want to be the secondary lead. A source revealed, “Farhan has played a lead in a biopic once before and he wouldn’t want to step away from the protagonist’s role in this film. It could also be the fact that he is producing the film under his Excel Entertainment banner.” Now, Saqib Saleem has been offered the role in ‘Gold’. Saqib has not confirmed anything as of now. This won’t be the first time that Farhan is denying a role; he was also offered the role that Nawazuddin Siddiqui is currently playing in Raees but he turned down that as well.
