Vineet Kumar Singh Talks About Working On Anurag Kashyap’s MUKKABAAZ

Monday, 15th January 2018, 06:30 PM IST Vineet Kumar Singh, who was last seen in ‘Ugly’, says the reason for it is that he was not offered any good roles. Vineet says, “When no good roles were coming my way, the thought of writing a script occurred to me. My sister has done her PhD in physical education and thus, her area too is related to sports. Together, we wrote many drafts and then started approaching producers. Most of them liked the script but also laid the condition that I should do another role and not the lead role.” On how Anurag Kashyap came on board, he says: “I did not approach Anurag before because after the shoot of Ugly, he had told me that he was not going to do any film with me in future because all my acting facets were already explored in three films. I had no courage to approach him. I only wanted his feedback and incorporate his ideas in the script of Mukkabaaz and then pitch it at his own production house.” Anurag himself says, “I get bored very easily. I work with actors again only when I see that their feet are firmly rooted to the ground. Sometimes you see people whose journey of life has changed after a film. I don’t sign them again. I make films from a certain pedestal where I need people who are naked and hungry and don’t have an identity in the market." Though Anurag agreed to make the film, Vineet reveals that he only did so on two conditions: "he will make the film only if I were to become a boxer, and second was to incorporate changes in the script." About these changes, Anurag says: “I told Vineet that the script is only of ten minutes and the rest is garbage. I also told him that you have written a Rocky for yourself and want to be a Stallone. I then advised him to forget the script and concentrate on being a boxer. I took those ten minute chunks as the base and rewrote the script with my team.” The final version of the film, the one which released, tells the story of an aspiring boxer, played by Vineet who slogs day and night to achieve his dream of being a recognised boxer. Things go awry when he falls in love with a high caste, mute girl, played by Zoya Hussain, who happens to be the niece of his arch nemesis, the head of the state boxing federation, Bhagwandas Mishra (Jimmy Sheirgill).
