Saturday, 25th April 2015, 2:54 PM IST Hansal Mehta was all set to helm the Hindi remake of Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Saaransh’. But, Mehta backed out as he felt that the story is fresh and relevant today as well. So now, Bhatt is planning to remake it in Marathi or Bengali. Talking about taking a back seat, Hansal said, "I was the one who had come up with the idea but after the initial euphoria, I saw the film again and realised that it was still as fresh and relevant today as it had been three decades ago. That's when I admitted to Bhattsaab (Mahesh Bhatt) that I didn't know what to do with it. I couldn't remake the same film." "When Hansal expressed a desire to rework this film, timeless because of its thematic content, I gave my consent, happy with what he had done with ‘City Lights’. Hansal gave his heart to it but then confessed that it would be hard to better the performances (Anupam Kher, Rohini Hattangadi, Soni Razdan) or the narrative and he, or anyone else, wouldn't be interested in a cut-and-paste job," Bhatt said. However, recently when Mahesh Bhatt was in Kolkata, Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee had told him that he'd be happy to act in a Bengali remake of ‘Saaransh’. Mahesh said, "I could make it in Bengali or even Marathi given the fact that Marathi cinema is going from strength to strength and has found its own space both nationally and internationally. I had first planned to make the original Saaransh in Marathi. That option is open for me now." When he was asked whether he will direct the film, he said, "I can't direct it. Why would I want to do something I've already done before. I have moved on.” Now you can enjoy ad-free experience by downloading India’s first Box Office mobile app from here –Android: http://bit.ly/BOCapsuleMobileApp and iOS: bit.ly/BOCapsuleiOSApp |
