Wednesday, 18th Nov 2015, 4:24 PM IST ‘Sadma’ starring Sridevi and Kamal Haasan in one of the best films made in the history of Bollywood. And now, the remake of the film is on the cards. Ad filmmaker Lloyd Baptista will be making his directorial debut with the remake. The original plot of the film will be twisted slightly to make it appealing to Gen-X. Lloyd has bought the remake rights of the film from Raj Sippy. Lloyd said, "‘Sadma’ is a masterpiece, it should be passed on to the next generation. I have watched it countless times and though it would be a challenge to remake it, I am up for it." Lloyd wanted to make the film since over a decade. "Back then, I lived in New Zealand and wanted to direct an English version. I showed the film to a few people who found it slow and offbeat so I dropped the idea. Then, a few months ago, I got in touch with Raj Sippy who invited me to his residence. Impressed by my passion and honesty for the film, he gladly gave me the film's rights." The shooting of the film will kick-start next year. ‘Sadma’ concentrated more on Sridevi’s character, but the remake will have a substantial role for the male lead as well. Deepak Dobriyal has been approached to play Paintal's character. The lead actors are not yet finalized, but the ad filmmaker admits that it's not easy to replace Sridevi and Haasan. The director wants to make the film in Tamil as well as in English. "But we roll with the Hindi ‘Sadma’ first," he informed.
