Supreme Court Dismisses Plea to Ban The Release of PADMAVATI Abroad

Tuesday, 28th November 2017, 01:00 PM IST Today, the Supreme Court took strong take to statements made by persons holding high offices against the film ‘Padmavati’, saying that the remarks were tantamount to pre-judging the movie which is yet to be certified by the Censor Board. The judges reiterated that it is the prerogative of the National Censor Board to review the film and decide as to whether it is suitable for screening. Supreme Court said, in a rebuke to Chief Ministers and others who have spoken out against the film, "those holding public offices should not comment on such issues." "When the matter is pending for the consideration of the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification), how can persons holding public offices comment on whether CBFC should issue certificate or not? That will prejudice the decision of the CBFC," the judges said. Supreme Court intervened here because the Chief Ministers of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh and some others of good reputation have said that they will not allow the movie to release even if it is cleared by the censor board. Also, a bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra dismissed the fresh petition that had sought an order to restrain the producers of the movie from releasing it abroad. This is happening for the third time in this month that Supreme Court has dismissed the plea of banning ‘Padmavati’. Let’s see when this whole issue is going to settle down.
