Dipesh Jain Interview: GALI GULEIYAN Is A Story Which Will Be Loved By Indians

Thursday, 6th September 2018, 6:45 PM IST Internationally known as 'In The Shadows', Dipesh Jain’s 'Gali Guleiyan' has been screened across 23 International Film Festivals and is all set to release in India on 7th September. Box Office Capsule had a very insightful interaction with Dipesh Jain about his upcoming film 'Gali Guleiyan' where he opened up about the cast and much more. 1. From Busan to Cleveland to Mumbai to New York, Gali Guleiyan ne duniya ki saari galiyaan ghum li hai, now it's finally releasing in India. How well do you think this will connect with our audience? I think, a lot. In the media, we are talking a lot about the psychological element in it but the core of it is that it is a very emotional story which Indian audiences like. It is a family drama about a kid and the mother’s relationship. So that forms the core of the story. Around that the genre is psychological. So there is everything for everybody like the psychological genre they will get this kind of a character study. One of the best performances by Manoj Bajpayee, so his fans will enjoy watching him. Shahana Goswami, Neeraj, Ranvir, we have packed it with great performers. The story we know it is connecting universal. So when you say that this has travelled to all the gallis it has got a lot of love in this gallis. So this film is a mass appeal film for us. 2. Manoj Bajpayee is the legend when it comes to acting but you also had stellar performers like Ranvir Shorey, Neeraj Kabi & Shahana Goswami. How hard or easy it becomes when you've so much of talent just blooming on your film's set? It’s not hard at all. I think I come with enough preparation not to be taunted by these big actors. When I am directing I am pretty confident about what I need from the actors. It’s actually not hard at all. The hardest part is getting these people on board, convincing them. Luckily it was not that hard convincing these actors. The script did that work for me. Shahana said no first because she didn’t want to play the role of a mother but then I convinced her how important her character was and only she could do it so well. 3. The movie will be clashing with Laila Majnu & Paltan, are there any kind of apprehensions regarding the release date? They have apprehensions from us? (Laughs) I don’t have any kind of apprehensions from them. 4. How do you see the concept of Word Of Mouth VS promotions matters for a film like Gali Guleiyan? We've seen movies like Newton work on WOM. Your thoughts? I think we are doing the mix of both. The film has already got a Word Of Mouth by being in festivals, so when we started our promotions a lot of people already knew about the film. And in the industry also people knew, so our job was to just build on it. We have done a lot of promotions for this film. Hopefully, it is reaching the audience also. Let’s see how well we did it.
