Deepika Padukone Wasn’t The First Choice For Shoojit Sircar’s PIKU

By Nikhil Bisoi - June 18, 2019 This is actually a kind of tradition in Bollywood. Films pass on from one actor to another due to various reasons (sometimes for the good) like Katrina Kaif was replaced by Shraddha Kapoor in ‘Street Dancer 3D’, Parineeti Chopra replaced Shraddha Kapoor in the biopic of Saina Nehwal and Katrina Kaif replaced Priyanka Chopra in ‘Bharat’. And now, surprisingly, it is being told that Deepika Padukone wasn’t the first choice for Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Piku’. Parineeti Chopra recently made an appearance on a chat show with her BFF, tennis ace Sania Mirza, and revealed that she could have been Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Piku’ in his 2015 slice-of-life film. A leading daily article quotes the actress talking about her reasons behind missing out on ‘Piku’, “I didn’t really turn down the film… there was a confusion. I was going to do another film at the same time and then that film also didn’t happen, so it was my loss," she said. While Parineeti is a talented actor in her own right, her style of acting is quite different from Deepika’s. However, we don’t think anyone other than Deepika Padukone could have pulled off the character. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, ‘Piku’ is an endearing father-daughter tale, with megastar Amitabh Bachchan essaying the role of Deepika's on-screen dad. ‘Piku’ was not only a commercial success but got critical acclaim as well. Meanwhile, on the work front, Parineeti will be seen in ‘Jabariya Jodi’ opposite Sidharth Malhotra and the film is slated to release on August 2, 2019. Besides, Parineeti is also prepping up for the biopic on badminton player Saina Nehwal and will be seen in ‘Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar’ opposite Arjun Kapoor.
