Zaira Wasim On Quitting The Film Industry: My Relationship With My Religion Was Threatened

By Nikhil Bisoi - July 01, 2019 Zaira Wasim, who made her debut in Aamir Khan’s Dangal, proved to be a great actress at an early age itself. The actress got fame since her first movie itself. After that she was seen as the main lead in Secret Superstar. Currently, she was working in Shonali Bose’s The Sky Is Pink with Farhan Akhtar and Priyanka Chopra. But yesterday everyone was in shock when Zaira Wasim posted about quitting the film industry. In a detailed post on her Facebook page, which she later shared across all social media platforms, the Kashmiri-born Dangal fame star said she realised "though I may fit here perfectly, I do not belong here". "Five years ago, I made a decision that changed my life forever. As I stepped my foot in Bollywood, it opened doors of massive popularity for me. I started to become the prime candidate of public attention, I was projected as the gospel of the idea of success and was often identified as a role model for the youth. However, that's never something that I set out to do or become, especially with regards to my ideas of success and failure, which I had just started to explore and understand," Wasim said in the lengthy post. She added, "This field indeed brought a lot of love, support, and applaud my way, but what it also did was to lead me to a path of ignorance, as I silently and unconsciously transitioned out of 'imaan' (faith). While I continued to work in an environment that consistently interferes with my 'imaan', my relationship with my religion was threatened." To this the producers of The Sky Is Pink said, “Zaira is an exceptional artiste and we are lucky to have had her play Aisha Chaudhury in our film, THE SKY IS PINK. She has been a complete professional all through the shoot of the film, which concluded earlier this month. This is a purely personal decision, which she has taken after much thought and we will be supportive of her in every way - now and always.” Well, it is indeed a shock to hear such thing but it is one’s personal choice and no one can force anyone to it. |
