Detailed Analysis:
There used to be comedies in 70's and 80's of Hrishikesh Mukherjee brand and then with the turn of century, we got to know that mindless tasteless stuff is called larger than life comedy entertainer. Now there is no need of review for such kind of films as there will be an audience for any kind of comedy no matter how badly critics smash it. Sajid Khan is trying to make a comeback with 'Humshakals' after debacle of 'Himmatwala'. Film starts with introduction of Ashok Singhania (Saif Ali Khan) who is rich businessman in UK but he has hobby of being a stand up comedian. But he is really bad as stand up comedian and his best friend Kumar (Ritesih Deshmukh) tries to persuade him to give up his hobby. One day Ashok finds his first admirer in Shaina (Tamannah Bhatia) who is the host of reality show. As expected both fall in love. Kumar is in love with Misthi (Bipasha Basu), the real estate manager of Ashok. Both couple break into song 'Caller tune' on expected lines. Kunwar Amar Nath Singh (Ram Kapoor) is maternal uncle of Ashok and wants to usurp Ashok's property but that can happen only if Ashok dies or declared mentally unstable. So KANS (Kunwar Amar Nath Singh is referred by that name) asks his friend Dr. Khan to make a medicine and he invents a medicine called MAD (Mind Altering drug, you suppose to laugh on that) which can be mixed in water and then that medicine forces man to behave like dog for 24 hours (yes, you heard it right). Ashok and Kumar find themselves in mental asylum under the supervision of Dr. Shivani Gupta (Eshaa Gupta). But in another wing of the same hospital, there is another pair of Saif Ali Khan and Riteish Deshmukh with same names Ashok and Kumar respectively. That wing is supervised by Y M Raj which means Yamraj (seriously!!) played by Satish Shah. Later in the film homosexual pair Chinku and Pinku, assistants of Dr. Khan also get converted into another pair of Saif and Riteish via Facial Molecular structure (zzzzz). There is also another wing in hospital where 2nd version of Ram Kapoor named Johnny is caged as he has allergy from sneezing but lollypop soothes him down. And then there is 3rd Ram Kapoor named Balbir who runs a dance bar in Southall. How evil KANS is defeated in middle of so much confusion forms the rest of the story. Performance wise, Riteish Dehsmukh proves his comic timings once again even in silliest of situation i.e. when he is licking like a dog, peeing from rooftop and acting like a girl. But Saif Ali Khan really needs to forget this one as he delivers easily his one of the weakest performances. Neither he is comfortable with this zone of comedy nor he understands the pitch. Ram Kapoor looks bad in all three roles and he along with Satish Shah tests patience. Out of girls, even in smallest role Bipasha Basu shines and looks hot. Tamannah Bhatia irritates hell out of you and Eshaa Gupta is better tha her last few outings but no where close to good tag. Chunkey Pandey offers nothing new in a brief appearance. Editing is big mess, film is at least 25 minutes too long and 2 hour 40 minutes seems like endless trauma. Writing is the biggest culprit as no one expects a storyline but jokes set new bar as far as senseless humor is concerned. Sample few - Hi Jack = Hijack Kali se flower = Cauliflower Shut up = Shirt up Pair padna = Kuch nahin likha hai pair pe Music is good and 'Caller Tune' and 'Piya Ke Bazaar Mein' are best of the lot. Film is shot very well and production value is rich which is case with most of Vashu Bhagnani films. But yes its director Sajid Khan who fails yet again to deliver despite huge star cast, top production houses and good music. Film will release tomorrow and should get big release across 3700 screens. Film will get some competition from Akshay Kumar starrer 'Holiday'. Film should open with good initials due to big star cast and heavy promotion. Film is made on big budget and sold for hefty all India distributor price and that is why expectations are huge. How good film can sustain on Saturday and then on weekdays will decide its fate. In this case word of mouth among masses will count as we all know what critics going to say.
