"Rowdy Rathore" Packs A Punch In Desi Style
Akshay Kumar makes a strong comeback as action hero, Prabhu Deva keeps the essence of original intact, music lifts the spirit of the film, powerful first half
Sonakshi repeats herself from her debut film “Dabangg”, 2nd half a bit disappointing with pace of proceedings dropping down
Watch it for return of Khiladi Kumar
Last few years were not so good for Akshay Kumar and though he did star in blockbuster “Housefull 2” earlier in the year but that was multistarrer project. “Rowdy Rathore” his biggest bet to reclaim his position at box office and producers too had not left any stone unturned in making it a grand release.
First thing first, film is almost similar to original “Vikramarkudu” but this one has got more zing and more style quotient. Film has a very usual storyline from 70’s Bollywood where a light hearted guy gets involved in a situation where he has to demolish gundaraj in small town of Bihar. Plus there is element of double role thrown in borrowed from all those Amitabh starrer from 70’s.
Film is a single man show and undoubtedly he impresses a lot in every action and dance sequence. After a long time, he looks in control and has shown extra chutzpah in every shot. It truly marks the comeback of Khiladi though his moustache irritates after a point. Director Prabhu Deva has done what hedoes best, he never let scripts to loosen up and he packs film with one liners, style, songs, dances and actions.
Songs look larger than life on big screen and easily “Chinta Ta Ta Chita Chita” and “Chikni Kamar” make you jump out of the seat and dance. Kareena Kapoor in brief appearance adds glamour quotient and Prabhu Deva’s dance moves are must watch. First half is more entertaining and sets high expectations for rest of the part.
But film comes with some regular flaws like not so exciting 2nd half and plain boring leading lady in Sonakshi Sinha. She looks disinterested in acting and her all focus is on smiling and smiling and testing your patience. But to fair to her, there is not much scope for her to do something worthwhile. Placement of couple of songs is quite abrupt and really halts the screenplay. Plus it has almost all the clich?s from history of Bollywood –item song, double role, stereotype flashback and too much action with forcibly inserted songs.
But all said and done, even harshest critic of Akshay will believe after watching this that he is in top gear this time around. In nutshell, film is a total paisa vasool entertainer for common man. And yes do not miss the start of the film, believe me you will enjoy it.
Go for this rowdy if you like your cinema simple and entertaining!
