AKIRA Is Dramatic Edge Of Seat Action Entertainer
Sonakshi Sinha is super, Anurag Kashyap is very good, neat direction, slick editing
Slow screenplay, boring music
Watch it for treatment and Sonakshi Sinha
A R Murugodass has given hit films like 'Ghajni' and 'Holiday' which were south remakes. This one too is a remake with female protagonist.
Plot is interesting. A college student (Sonakshi Sinha) single-handedly takes on four corrupt police officer (Anurag Kashyap) in a bid to prove her innocence. Akira, in Sanskrit, means graceful strength. And that is how you see Sonakshi Sinha in the AR Murugadoss film as she goes about fighting violence against women as well as cliches of how actresses in Bollywood are supposed to be. Sonakshi plays a college student from a dysfunctional family. Short on temper and quick to let her fists do the talking, Sonakshi is a misfit in her small town. Her parents send her to Mumbai, hoping the big city will calm her down. They should have known better. Sonakshi’s character is someone who cannot handle violence against women and wrongs of any kind. Soon, she finds herself in a mess where she is pitted against Anurag Kashyap’s corrupt, coke-snorting police officer. The second half takes you down the same road. Murugadoss loves fancy twists in his films, the more improbable the better. If you remember his earlier films, you know exactly what we mean. If you can suspend disbelief and buy everything that Sonakshi and Murugadoss offer you, the actioner is your thing.
Film has decent plot but screenplay gets slow at times especially in 1st half. Songs are flat but proceedings gets interesting in 2nd half. Film manages to keep you on edge of your seat.
Performance wise, Sonakshi Sinha is outstanding. Anurag Kashyap is first rate in a role of corrupt cop. He should switch profession going by his last film as director.
Film has crisp editing. Background music is loud. Cinematography is decent, production design is authentic and costumes are apt. Music is bore.
Director A R Murgadoss again makes a very entertaining yet interesting film. He gives an intense film just his overdose of drama feels dated at times.
Film released today and will open low but should grow over weekend as there is no competition at box office.
Go for this for rare lady action avatar in Bollywood!
