BEGUM JAAN Is Intolerable Over The Top Drama
Vidya Balan is honest, Chunky Pandey looks menacing, decent idea
Poor screenplay, over the top dialogues, loads of ham acts
Watch it for superb performances and dialogues
Vishesh Films wants to redeem himself with the remake of this women centric film.
Film revolves around a brothel which becomes the bone of contention during partition in 1947 as it falls in middle of line of control. Except this novelty of idea, complete film is full of stale characterisation and lazy writing coupled with over the top dialogues.
Film is tight and superb in terms of technical aspects but it falls badly in terms of treatment.
Performance wise film belongs to Vidya Balan as she does not put a single foot wrong though her role lacks depth. Whole supporting cast from Ashish Vidyarthi to Misthi to Ila Arun to Pallavi Sharda all are full of ham. Only Chunky Pandey surprises with his new look.
Story lacks punch and screenplay is poor. Dialogues are over the top which can put Rajat Arora to shame.
Editing is top notch and film is shot extremely well.Costumes are tacky but background score is excellent.
Debuatant director Srijit has directed really bad film. It does not have soul or body.
Film released today and will struggle due to bad reviews and clash with 'Fast & Furious 8'. Film will need positive word of to score in long run as opening will not be good.
Go watch this one if you can survive ham-fest!
