MACHINE Is Routine Abbas Mustan Thriller
Kiara Advani is impressive, couple of decent songs, big production values, well shot
Poor writing, forced twists, Mustafa fails to impress
Watch it for Kiara Advani and locations
Abbas -Mustan mastered art of suspense drama in 90's and worked with all big stars. Now they are back with their latest offering which also marks debut Abbas's son Mustafa.
Somewhere in Himanchal there is a school. There are bunch of cliche college kids with school kids kind of activities. Sara Thapar (Kiara Advani) is rich girl, drives fast cars, has half a dozen obsessive lovers and acts too too in pathetic Romeo Juliet play. She falls in love with Ransh (Mustafa) after he defeats her in car race. Sara's father (Ronit Roy) is filthy rich and owns half of land in Himanchal (pun intended!). Then handful murders of Sara's lovers followed by her marriage with Ransh make for boring watch. At the interval point Ransh throws Sara off the cliff reminding us director duo's blockbuster 'Baazigar'. What happens there on in 2nd half is completely surprising and a bit nonsensical.
Performance wise Kiara Advani is first grade with energetic performance. She mixes charm, innocence with right amount of drama. Except her most of the other actors continue to ham. Ronit Roy is repetitive and loud, Dilip Tahil is sleepwalking and new comer Simran needs crash course in acting. Debutant Mustafa is not bad but he fails to capture screen with his presence.
Story lacks pace though it has some meat but screenplay is uninteresting and has some really pathetic twists. Dialogues are good. Editing is below par and background score is fab.
Costumes are filmsy and it is very well shot film. Camerawork department deserves special mention. Songs are decent and lift the film.
Director Abbas - Mustan delivers probably their worst film which has some really bizarre twists. It's sad that it also marks debut of son Mustafa.
Film released today and will struggle at box office. Film is bound to flop poorly.
Go watch this one if you love any thriller with outlandish twists!
