BOMBAY VELVET Takes Disastrous Opening
Bollywood films have disappointed and no film managed to cross 100 cr nett in 2015. This year films like ''Dum Laga Ke Haisha'', ''NH 10'', ''Badlapur'' and ''Piku'' had overperformed purely due to exceptional reviews and positive word of mouth. Though ''Gabbar'' and ''Baby'' did well but were short of 100 cr mark. Now easily the costliest film of the year ''Bombay Velvet'' releases today which has budget in excess of 100 cr so business is expected to be at least one and half times of that.
''Bombay Velvet'' is produced by Fox Star and Phantom. Film released in 2600 screens and it had opened to mixed reviews and poor occupancy. Film was in news for about a year and there is lot of negativity about it in media. There were efforts to make an artificial positive buzz around the film but as happens always, nothing changed for audience.
Film has opened to shocking numbers of 15-20% and that poorer than ''Roy'' (another Ranbir Kapoor starrer) because that film still had good music. From here film will grow but there is almost no chance of even an average tag. Situation is so bad that Cinemax Versova and PVR Ambience Gurgaon have less than 100 admits. Shows will be reduced sooner than laterunless a miracle happens in evening.
As per early trends, film will struggle to go to double digit figures which will be still a horrifying numbers for makers. Even a turnaround from here means a 12 cr nett which will be poor.
Out of other new releases, ''Mad Max Road To Fury'' is doing better than ''Bombay Velvet'' at some plexes. This Hollywood film should do a good day one.
