PIKU Had Very Good Week One
Bollywood films have disappointed and no film managed to cross 100 cr nett. This year films like ''Dum Laga Ke Haisha'', ''NH 10'', ''Badlapur'' had overperformed purely due to exceptional reviews and positive word of mouth. Now one more film is doing that in an extraordinary way.
''Piku'' is produced by Sony MSM and distributed by Yash Raj Films. Film released in 1600 - 1800 screens and it had opened to glowing reviews and decent occupancy. Film was solid in metros especially in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore and collected 5.32 cr nett on Friday. Film was expected to grow in the region of 30-40% but film surprised everyone with 65% growth.
Film collected 8.70 cr nett on 2nd day. If that was not enough, film jumped again by 30% from previous day and collected 11.20 cr nett on Sunday. Film dropped by only 13% on Monday from Friday and collected 4.40 cr nett. Film was solid in multiplexes and actual ticket sales was at par with Friday. Film dropped only marginally on Tuesday and collected 4.10 cr nett followed by 4 cr nett on Wednesday and 3.70 cr nett on Thursday.
Film has total of 41.42 cr nett in seven days and it means minimum 40 cr nett week one is on the card. Going by the response, film is here to stay and can go as big as 65-70 cr nett lifetime but it will be affected by next week release ''Bombay Velvet'' so 2nd weekend will be crucial.
Film was highest opener in overseas and collected 2.20 million $ (14.60 cr) over weekend. Film is rather heavy on budget side which means minimum 55 cr nett lifetime required to recover costs including ancillary rights and it seems that it will achieve that easily .
