PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO Drops Big Time On 2nd Friday
Diwali is great time for films to release as audience is in festive mood and is waiting for big Diwali releases. This year Salman Khan starrer Sooraj Barjatya film 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' lit up box office on auspicious occasion of Diwali. Film brings back blockbuster pair of actor - director after 17 years and also smiles on faces of trade and exhibitors.
PRDP released in 4300 screens in India and 780 screens in overseas market. With 2 hour 50 minutes run time, it did lose some amount of edge but that has been recovered by super stardom of lead actor and release date. Film opened to fab response all over yesterday and as we predicted, film collected huge 40.35 cr nett on day one in Hindi and 41 cr nett all India including Tamil & Telugu which is highest opening day of 2015 and 2nd highest ever.
Film collected huge numbers all over and it created new circuit records in 7 circuits and left behind only in West and south on day one. But as we predicted in our report on Friday morning that it has dropped by 23%. Film collected 31.05 cr nett on day two which was a very good performance. Film dropped by 25% plus in morning/noon shows but again grew today in evening shows. Film collected 30.07 cr nett on day three which was solid trending that too despite holiday on day one.
Again film has taken a solid start and it seems that it will grow by 12-15% today over yesterday. Film collected around 28.30 cr nett on Sunday and that means a bad drop of 10% from yesterday. Film has found acceptance in Gujarat, CP, CI and Mumbai but it is not so great in south, west and East Punjab. There are murmurs in trade that film will see noticeable drop if not on Monday then for sure on Tuesday. After rather average weekdays film collected 172.82 cr nett in extended 8 day week one which is 2nd bets of 2015 after 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan'.
Film was expected to drop on 2nd Friday though there was no major Bollywood release. Film collected 5.50 cr nett on 2nd Friday which was huge drop followed by 6.70 cr nett on 2nd Saturday which was only average growth. Now by this trend it can add 16-17 cr nett in 2nd weekend which will take it close to 187 cr nett total. It will just pass 200 cr nett barrier.
Film has nine day total of 183.72 cr nett (250 cr gross) which is still fantastic with additional 3 cr nett from Tamil/Telugu versions. Film added superb 8.90 million $ (59 cr) in overseas in four days. Film has worldwide gross of 340 cr in eight days. After such opening followed by such a drop scenario looks bleak for the film and even 225 cr nett looks like distant target.
