Monday, 5th August 12:30 PM IST Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif's big budget ‘Dhoom 3’ has been in the news ever since the two actors came on board and now reports suggest that the film's satellite rights are calling for big bucks. Records are set to tumble once again as Aamir Khan’s ‘Dhoom 3’ is rumored to cross top grossing movies like ‘Chennai Express’ and ‘Dabangg 2’ for their satellite rights by quite a significant margin. If rumours are anything to go by, the third installment of Yash Raj Films' most successful franchise ‘Dhoom’ has been offered Rs 75 crores for its satellite rights. About the recent hype about ‘Chennai Express’ bagging Rs 48 crores for its satellite rights, Jayantilal Gada, CMD of Pen India, the agency that bagged the satellite rights for End Films reveals - “The price for satellite rights of Chennai Express is Rs 40 crore plus and not Rs 48 crore as reported. The price is Rs 40 crore plus for seven years, with a link to box office performance. I am not in competition to buy the satellite rights of ‘Dhoom’ 3, so I don’t know how much the satellite rights are being negotiated for.” As far as the money which has gone into the making of the film goes, ‘Dhoom 3’ has cost Yash Raj Films around Rs 150 crores. Rafique Gangjee from YRF says, “The ‘Dhoom’ franchise, like all our films, is very dear to us. ‘Dhoom 3’, which releases this Christmas, is the most anticipated film of the year. In the years to come, we certainly look forward to more ‘Dhoom’ sequels.” Trade analyst Komal Nahata says, “Prior to ‘Chennai Express’, the film which fetched the highest price for telecast rights on the tube was ‘Dabangg 2’ which fetched Rs44-45 crore. However, Komal says he hasn’t heard about what price that ‘Dhoom 3’ is fetching, “I do know that Colours and Sony are vying for it but the market forces wouldn’t justify that. A more real estimate would be Rs55-58 crore.” Action thriller ‘Dhoom 3’, which also stars Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra, has largely been shot in Chicago. Slated to release on December 25, ‘Dhoom 3’ has been in news thanks to Aamir Khan's villainous act in the movie. | ||||
