Monday, 1st Sept 2014, 6:52 PM IST Choreographer turned director Remo D’souza, while working on the chartbuster “Disco Deewane” from ‘Student Of The Year’ immediately knew that he wanted to make a dance film with Varun Dhawan.
"I was surprised at how comfortable this debutant was in front of the camera. Also, he is a fab dancer," recalls Remo adding,"In 'ABCD', I made actors out of dancers, but for the sequel I was sure Iwanted an actor who can dance."
After ‘Student Of The Year’ released, Remo had shared the idea with Varun who has responded positively. However, he waited till ‘Main Tera Hero’ to see how his second film did at the box office.
Remo says, "He was fabulous in the film and that's whenI decided that before this guy gets too busy, I must lock him as he's the best among the young lot."
He wouldn’t have got the backing of a big studio for a sequel if ‘Any Body Can Dance’ failed commercially. Says Remo. "I would have made Part 2 anyway but I'd probably have made a small, indie film which not too many people would have watched. But the success of the original gave me access to stars and finance."
According to Remo, "There is so much talent out there coming up with extraordinary stuff. It's difficult to keep track. Also, the film documents the real-life story of Suresh and Vernon of The Fictitious Group so 80 per cent of it is completely true." And that is why he insists that ‘Any Body Can Dance 2’ will not look repetitive. |
