Item numbers have always been aritual in Prakash Jha’s movie, be it Manyata doing a rustic number in “Gangajal”, Barkha Bisht in “Raajneeti”or his current, hard-hitting social drama “Satyagraha” for which he has ropedmodel-actor Natasa Stankovic to dance to the tunes of a thumri-electronicfusion number called "Aiyo ji hamri atariya mein" for the movie.
Known for making movies onhard-hitting issues, Jha’s next is focused on middle-class uprising againstcorruption. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Arjun Rampal and Manoj Bajpayee inprominent roles. Jha is aware that movies need a commercial element and to certaindemographics, numbers like this one appeal immensely.
He says, "Such numberscontribute to certain moments and sensibilities. They help the story too.Maanyata's song helped in establishing the psyche of debased people. In Satyagraha, the item song creates the ambiance of affluence and the bonhomie of corruptpeople."
Jha adds,"Dance numbers do entertain the masses and entertainment is the key factorin filmmaking.”
Talkingabout the song he says, "It is set in a nightclub and dramaticallyestablishes Ajay's rise as a telecommunication czar, with his wheelings anddealings. Natasa is from Croatia but is attuned to Indian dances. She fit thebill and is electric in her performance." Natasa who is really excited about the song says, “I came to Mumbai in 2012 and started with stage shows but always dreamt to do a dance number in films. This film is about a strong subject, but I hope that my dance number gets appreciation from the audience”.
