It seems after directing SOTY and co producing it with Shahrukh, Karan has decided go back to his favorite subject love saga and that too starring Shahrukh Khan. After his upcoming directorial venture "Student of the Year" releases, Karan Johar is all set to direct his first period romance based in Lahore during the time of the partition.

Speaking to media Karan says, "It's my story researched by my father as he grew up in Lahore. Dad was very attached to what had happened during partition. I could not make it earlier and kept fighting it because it reminded me of my father. But now, I want to make it for him. I remember when he heard it he was so excited. It's a sweeping saga and I feel it's the best story I have thought of ever. I have cast in my head and I can only tell you that it will be a star-studded film."

As per the sources, Karan has shown script to SRK and Shahrukh has given nod to the project. Film will go in pre-production in 2nd quarter of 2013. Shahrukh will complete "Chennai Express" and following that "Happy New Year" from December.
