Music Review KICK Album Has Few Kicks But No Hangover

Overall album is massy score where 'Hangover' and 'Jumme Ki Raat' are chartbusters. Rest are strictly average and as we said in beginning, album has few kicks but album lacks quality and failed to stay with you. It has kicks but no hangover.

Detail:

'Kick' is upcoming Sajid Nadiadwala film starring Salman Khan, Jacquline Fernandes, Randeep Hooda and Nawazuddin. Film is highly anticipated especially as this is releasing on Eid, same festival which gave Salman biggest hits on this occasions in last few years.

The album begins with 'Jumme Ki Raat' and this song is already a rage. Sung by Mika Singh and Palak Muchhal, the song opens the album with a bang! Full of energy and with colorful lyrics song has already set the charts on fire. Mika’s vocals do full justice to the tone and flavor of the song and Jacqueline’s sizzling chemistry with Salman has only made the song hotter! Palak Muchhal’s brief interlude is impressive and she encapsulates the superior attitude of the lyrics. Mayur Puri’s lyrics are effective even if the opening line of ‘jumme ki raat hai, chumme ki baat hai’ is not an ingenious line to come up with.

Then comes 'Hangover' and you know if Salman Khan makes his debut behind the mike then it will be special. Purist might raise eyebrows but this has some infectious melody to it. It is a melodiously trendy duet with Shreya Ghoshal composed by Meet Bros Anjan. It features a brilliant assortment of instruments, the violin and guitar interludes being particularly impressive. The lyrics are equally good and Shreya and Salman complement each other well.

Next one is 'Tu Hi Tu' by Mohd Irfan and here he shows his all versatility and command over the song. But song lacks novelty factor but yes it has legs to become popular. Himesh provides his magic touch to elevate cliche lyrics.

Now we have 'Yaar Na Miley', the dance number of the film. Sung by Yo Yp Honey Singh and Jasmine, this one looks the odd one from the start. Lyrics are more towards Punjabi feel and music going towards western sounds. Honey Singh does his usual thing, though we wish his verse was better. The chorus of the song is catchy but it lacks that charbuster zing!

Then comes the 'Jumme Ki Rat Salman Version' where Salman takes over the mike from Mika in the second version of the track. He gets an A for effort and energy but unfortunately Mika Singh is a tough act to follow and the superstar falters with respect to style and finesse. His vocals come off as being strained in some portions which is not easy on the ears. Luckily Himesh’s catchy hooks are still intact.

'Hangover MBA Swag' is the 2nd version of song and we preferred this version of Meet Bros to Salman’s. There is more melody and the tune sounds better with their vocals. Also the tempo is faster with some Punjabi Bhangra flavour and rap in the verses.

Then comes last song 'Tu Hi Tu Salman verison' and this is boring.
Salman has rendered the second version of the track but unfortunately whatever made him excel in Hangover, possibly good coaching on Meet Bros Anjan’s part, is missing in action. While the emotional quotient is definitely there, the absence of the technical is starkly apparent.

Verdict:

Overall album is massy score where 'Hangover' and 'Jumme Ki Raat' are chartbusters. Rest are strictly average and as we said in beginning, album has few kicks but album lacks quality and failed to stay with you. It has kicks but no hangover.

This is must one for Salman fans but otherwise strictly good affair!
