Wednesday, 1st April 11:50 AM IST Yesterday 1st quarter of 2015 ended and overall box office scenario remained very gloomy. 2014 was not a great year at box office and there was no growth in overall business as box office business fell by 5%. This year has taken even poorer start and business has further fell by 25% from last year. There was back to back distinct growth in 2012 and 2013 over previous years but 2014 was bad and it seems that 2015 will be as bad as 2014. Industry again registered fall for 2nd consecutive year as business came down 10%. 'Badlapur', 'NH 10', 'Talvar' and 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' emerged as success but all were cheap films in terms of budget. All were critical acclaimed and not a single massy film managed decent biz except to an extent 'Welcome Back'. There is a distinct trend and we can easily say that this trend will stay for a years to come. Some big disappointments were 'Bombay Velvet', 'Hamari Adhuri Kahani', 'Tamasha', 'Dil Dhadakane Do' and 'Shaandaar'. Biggest surprises were 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns', 'Baahubali' and 'PKP 2. Big films PRDP and 'Dilwale' ultimately fell short of expectations and only 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' managed to meet expectations. All Akshay Kumar starrers finished in almost same bracket of 70-85 cr nett despite releasing on national holidays. Varun Dhawan and Ranveer Singh managed to cement their position as new bankable stars.
Following is the top grosser films in 2015 at box office and their verdict -
