A Connection Between Amitabh Bachchan’s PIKU And ANAND

Wednesday, 1st April 2015, 5:47 PM IST Amitabh Bachchan’s upcoming flick ‘Piku’ has a connection with the veteran actor’s 1971 hit flick ‘Anand’. Well, we remember Big B as Babumoshai from ‘Anand’, but his name in the film was Bhaskar Banerjee and the same name is being used in ‘Piku’. Talking about it, Shoojit Sircar, the director of ‘Piku’ said, "Really? It's just a happy coincidence. Neither Juhi (writer Juhi Chaturvedi) nor I consciously forged the connection. For both of us, Mr Bachchan was always Babumoshai in ‘Anand’. In fact, I don't recall Mr Bachchan reacting to it, though he did occasionally reminisce about Hrishida's style of working." Sircar said that big B’s character in his film is the absolute opposite of what he played in ‘Anand’. But, there is one similarity. He said, "I remember Hrishda's film, one of my favourites, for Mr Bachchan's subtle performance. While everybody around him was a little loud, he was grounded. It was his performance that made the film so real and while his character in ‘Piku’ is very different, there's a subtlety here even in the exaggerated portions. I'd say he's an older Babumoshai."
