Detailed Analysis:
'Mardaani' is hitting the screens today and it is directed by director Pradeep Sarkar and produced by YRF. Film is hard hitting social drama. Film narrates chilling tale of human cum sex trafficking. One 13-14 year old girl Pyari untraceable who was friend of Crime Branch Officer Shivani's (Rani Mukherjee) niece. Shivani tries to find out the girl and that leads her to a complicated professional network of human sex trafficking. This gang kidnaps young girls and supply them to rich influential people all over the world. This gang has many layers and hierarchy. On top is a young guy Karan Rastogi who plays cat and mouse with Crime Branch officer Shivani. How Shivani exposes each and every part of this network forms the rest of the story. Performance wise Rani Mukherjee is top notch. She displays an honest gritty act and she gets full point for that. But her body language and structure did not allow her to desired impact especially towards climax. Jishu Sengupta as Dr Bikram Roy is decent, Priyanka Sharma as Pyari is very good. Tahir Bhasin as main baddie is not bad but he overacts and tries too hard. Other supporting cast members do decent job. Background music of the film is too noisy. Editing is uneven as few sequences go on and on. Song towards the end is good but again that is too over dramatic. Cinematography is brilliant and adds to the mood. Action by Manohar Verma lacks innovation or punch. Screenplay is very cliche and at times reminds you of crime serials on small screen. Story idea deserved to be applauded. Director Pradeep Sarkar once again reunites with YRF and Rani Mukherjee after forgettable 'Laga Chnri Mein Daag'. That film was based on prostitution in a dramatic way and this one deals serious issue of human trafficking. Problem is that director tries to treat the film in a very European way especially in first half an hour but 2nd half is completely over dramatic and full of Bollywood style dialogue baazi and scenes. Film released today and will get opening of some sort for sure. Film will get some competition from The Expendables 3' and few small Bollywood releases. But real competition will be from last week's release 'Singham Returns'. Film will suffer due to adult ratings and lack of song and dance mean only multiplex audience will lap it up if at all. Still good word of mouth should take it to safe zone.
