Critic Rating: 1/5
Business Rating: 1/5
Verdict:
Watch it for interesting and inspiring story idea
Detailed Analysis:
Ayushmann Khurrana made smashing debut with 'Vicky Donor' but then he delivered flops like 'Bewakoofiyan' and 'Nautanki Saala'. Now he is back with an interesting biopic and blue eyed debutant director.
Film is inspired from real life events from 1890's. It is based on story of Shivaji Talpade (Ayushmann Khurrana) who had distinction to flown first plane, eight years before Wright Bothers. Though complete truthfulness of story remains dubious but film takes this interesting tale and then weave some imagination. Talpade, a loser failed umpteen times in 4th class and he plays saxophone for band. He falls in love with a dancer Sitara (Pallavi Sarda) but after few boring songs and tacky dialogues, both fall in love. She betrays him due to social pressure in those times surrounding a dancer. There is a parallel track of Shastri ji (Mithun Chakrobarthy) who is trying to make airplane and that is why British establishment is after him. He finds a spark in Talpade and offers him job as his assistant to make airplane. How Talpade manages to fly first aircraft forms the rest of the story. Performance wise Pallavi Sarda is good and displays acting skills well. But unfortunately she stars again in a pathetic film. Ayushmann Khurrana is still in 'Vicky Donor' zone and he is poor in this once in a lifetime role. Mithun acts like a comedian and rest of the supporting cast including seasoned actors like Jayant Kriplani irritate hell out of audience. Film has couple of good songs but none of those are chartbuster. And biggest fault of director is to fprce one song in every 7-10 minutes. Editing is poor and cinematography is average. Background score is pathetic. Story was good but poor dialogues and screenplay spoil the game. Art department and costume department are fantastic.
Director Vibhu Puri failed miserably and despite having a good subject, he completely misses the mark. Too many songs, unnecessarily forced overstretched romantic track, poor editing and bad dialogues - it had all which one can wish for! Film released today and will get 800 screens which will enough for such film. Film will find it tough at box office as there is so much competition in form of 'Khamoshiyan'. And this needs a miracle to succeed.
Go for this one if biopics and history excite you!
