2/5

Detailed Analysis:

R Balki delivered couple of surprise hits with Amitabh in form of 'Paa' and 'Cheeni Kum'. This time he is back with another interesting story with south superstar Dhanush.

Filmstarts with superstar Shamitabh/Dhaanish (Dhanush) at the launch of famous soap brand. Numerous Bollywood celebrities (Mahesh Bhatt, Lullas, Javed Akhtar, Ektsa Kapoor, Boney Kapoor etc.) sing praise for this star. Then in flashback we come to know that this superstar was mute since childhood. He becomes superstar with the help of voice of Amitabh Sinha (Amitabh Bachchan) and assistant director (Akshara Haasan). How this voice and stardom create a unique conflict form the rest of the story. Climax might leaves one underwhelmed or confused but it leaves an impact.

Performance wise Amitabh Bachchan proves once again his stardom and immense acting prowess. He is simply outstanding in his drunken shot. Dhanush proves that he is here to stay and watch out for his performance in sad climax. Akshara Haasan is strictly below par as she falters in many shots. Rekha sparkles in extraordinary cameo and numerous others cameos leave audience smiling.

Film has couple of good songs but still all look bit out of place due to too much regional feel. Editing is uneven as film is 10 minutes too long in 2nd half and cinematography is average. Background score is decent. Story was good but screenplay spoil the game especially in 2nd half. Dialogues deserve special mention for impeccable impact. Art department and costume department are good.

Director R Balki failed to create similar impact as he did with his earlier two films but still he delivers an intriguing film. If 'Paa' was inspired from 'A Curious Case Of Benjamin Button' then this one has uncanny similarity with 'Singing In The Rain'. Balki leaves too many loopholes in 2nd half.

Film will release tomorrow and will get 1500 screens which will enough for such film. Film has chances at box office as there is no major competition. But still it needs an exceptional jumps and word of mouth over weekend in order to come out as hit.

Go for this one if different cinema is your cup of tea!
