BROTHERS Is Highest Opener For Akshay Kumar Ever
After stupendous success of 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' and 'Bahubali', 'Drishyam' and 'Bangistan' did not meet expectations. Now its turn of big release 'Brothers' starring Akshay Kumar and Siddharth Malhotra on big Independence day weekend.
'Brothers' is remake of Hollywood film 'Warriors'. Last few Akshay Kumar starrers 'Baby' and 'Gabbar' failed to cross 100 cr nett barrier despite good reviews. So it will be interesting to see whether this film with big holiday over weekend will push it beyond 100 cr nett.
Film started on expected lines on Friday morning as it opened to 30% occupancy in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Film is somewhat better in north with 35% or more occupancy but overall its close to 30%. Film grew from evening onwards and managed to reach 15.20 cr on opening day. This is highest opening for Akshay Kumar beating 15.10 cr nett of 'Rowdy Rathore' and 2nd highest opening day in 2015 beating 'ABCD 2'.
Film needs 23-25 cr nett day two which looks possible at the moment though 20 cr nett is almost assured. Anything less than 55-58 cr nett will be a really bad result for the film over weekend. So today and tomorrow will decide appreciation around the film and trend for its lifetime total.
