Verdict:
Watch it for entertaining sports film
Detailed Analysis:
Rajkumar Hirani is unarguably the biggest director in Bollywood today. He has given hit films with solid content so when he is turning producer with this film then expectations are big.
Though subject of film is similar to 'Mary Kom' but film is on similar lines of 'Chak De! India'. A tainted coach Adi Tomar (R Madhvan) wants to redeem himself after he was accused of sexual favors from the players, corruption etc. Madhi (Ritika Singh) is handpicked by Adi and from there her journey starts in boxing ring. Then there are bureaucrats (Zaakir Hussain) and system who are not bothered about the sports but they are always busy discouraging and insulting Adi and Madhi. How Madhi redeems himself and what happens to Madhi and Adi afterwards forms the crux of story. The pace of the film is good in the 1st half and there is enough content to keep its promise with audience. But sudden forced introduction of songs completely breaks the film's pace in addition to over-dramatization and predictable climax. Performance wise R Madhvan stands tall with his solid act, watch out for scene when he yells at Madhi to perform and the climax! Ritika Singh is revelations as Madhi. Zaakir Hussain scores big with wonderful performance. Naasar and Mumtaz Sorcar are good too. Film has good screenplay and decent dialogues. Film has crisp editing. Music is average though does work in the film to an extent. Cinematography is good, production design is perfect and costumes are apt.
Director Sudha Kongra has chosen a noble concept and she should be lauded for that but she falls in terms of execution as film goes into over - dramatic mode plus at times the treatment is too high handed. Film released today and it will get good to very good reviews but it will get average opening due to genre/feel/treatment. Film has one open week and so the real challenge is to have big weekend at box office as there are too many films this week and next week too.
Go for this one if sports films are your cup of tea! | |||||
