Varun Dhawan seems to have caught the nerve of Indian audiences. He believes actors and actresses are viewed very differently in India and that it is an actor’s neck which gets caught when a movie tanks.
Shah Rukh Khan, while having Koffee With Karan, said that Karan Johar’s student Alia Bhatt had done too much in her career too soon. Varun, the other student, was asked the same question and his reply could get you thinking!
A source quoted Varun saying, "It might sound chauvinistic, but the Indian audience views heroes and heroines very differently. When a film fails, the lead actor is always blamed for it. The industry, trade and the audience does this. So, as an actor, it is very important to do roles that you enjoy, but at the same time give the audience what they want. When you talk about big-business films, they reach out to an entire country and there's a reason why those heroes are managing to do that. They are not making films just to please social media, and this is something I have been vocal about because I strongly believe in it. What really works or doesn't is something you learn along the way."
It definitely looks like Varun did learn, since the actor has almost never given a flop.
