Pluses:
Jimmy Shergill puts honest effort
Minuses:
poor screenplay, no story at all, even poorer performances by Arif Zakaria and Nusrat, background score to editing everything is lazy
Critic Rating: 0.5/5
Business Rating: 1/5
Verdict:
Watch it for killing two precious hours of your life
Detailed Analysis:
Pawan Kriplani directed 'Ragini MMS' which was decent film as far as plot and chill factor concerned. Now he is back with his next 'Darr At The Mall' produced by Contiloe Films and Sony MSM.
To start with, film has nothing new to offer in terms of story and screenplay. A mall opening function where only 5 actors and 5 supporting actors are wandering, yes and you guessed it right, this mall is haunted because some typical cliche incident happened in a hostel where nun and 21 children were killed 30 years back. One child escaped that fire and now that nun is killing everyone in mall with full gusto. Climax will unveil some real pathetic back story twists and turns. Performance wise Jimmy Shergill is the one who puts some honesty and effort here. But he can not do much when he is searching for script and substance with a torch in hand. Arif 'Haunted' Zakaria continues to pop his eyes out in every horror film and other supporting cast members sleepwalk or provide unintentional comic relief. Nusrat Barucha should be asked what the hell in the world forced her to sign this film except money after 'Pyaar Ka Punchnaama' and 'Akaash Vaani'. Editing is amateur and so is the camera work which reminds you of C grade horror show on small screen. Dialogues evoke laughter every now and then and background score is uninspiring. Songs were forced into the film and one item song 'Pinnacolada' was complete waste of time and money. But it is director Pawan Kriplani who displays audacity of making such a bore horror film with rather decent cast and painful is not the result but the complete absence of any sort of genuine effort. Film will release today across 500-600 screens but by Monday this number should come down to 300. Film will find to reach 8-10 cr nett lifetime and even 4 cr nett weekend will be a good result.
