Box Office Report Card Of 2013, Khans Continue To Dominate Even After 25 Years

2013 was one hell of a year as far as Bollywood box office is concerned. Films came and conquered almost every possible record and new milestones were achieved. On one hand sequels continue to dominate and big stars kept their dominance safe, on the other hand some big flops did hurt the investors.

Bollywood had the growth in business for last 2-3 years. Following is the table for same showing 30% plus growth in 2012 over 2011 and in 2013 growth over 2012 was in area of 14%.

Growth story continued but industry was hit by poor content, piracy and now even big Hollywood films are eating into the pie of domestic box office. To foster further, Bollywood needs more reach especially in smaller towns and well balanced content containing entertainment and novelty.

Small town flavor struck the chord again with the audience and films like ''Raanjhanaa'', ''Kai Po Che'' and ''Shuddh Desi Romance'' scored at box office with small town settings. If adult comedy ''Grand Masti'' went through the roof crossing 100 cr nett, few sequels like OUATIMD and YPD 2 failed at box office owing to miserable quality.

Farhan Akhtar cemented his position as male lead with sleeper success of ''Bhaag Milkha Bhaag'', Shahrukh Khan made big comeback with record shattering ''Chennai Express'' and Aamir Khan had the last laugh with epic ''Dhoom 3''. ''Krrish 3'' made noise for wrong reasons with numerous allegations of fudging the figures and Ranbir had mixed year with Blockbuster success of YJHD and embarrassment with ''Besharam''.

But one key to success became highlighted even more - festive release and big star combo never fail even if the content is not that great! We wish more power to box office in 2014 and hope for better content from makers.
