Pluses: Jaideep Ahlawat packs the punch, Sanjay Mishra and Akash Dahiya are decent, quirky dialogues, crisp editing by Ashish Minuses:

Detailed Analysis: Zeishan Quadri made big splash as a writer of 'Gangs Of Wasseypur' and now he is back as director/producer of another gangster drama. Interesting cast and real treatment make it a film to watch out for!
Rishi Kapoor plays a Mr Bhalla, who runs a bakery in a hill station called Kasol. He is never seen to be baking anything. All he does is to yell and shout at his wife, and sonny boy Inder (played by Supriya Pathak and Abhishek Bachchan, respectively). Why? That’s a mystery. Ms Pathak is to be found in an ‘ashram’, looking vacantly about. Abhishek switches locations from a Bangkok poolside with bikinied babes to the winding roads of Kasol, where he encounters college-mate Nimmi (Asin, colourless) who has feelings for him. Why anyone would have a tender spot for someone as indifferent as Inder is an even bigger mystery. Up pops a long-haired goon called Cheema who’s only job is to twirl a gun, and threaten people. Why the talented Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub took on this thankless part is a … yes, you got that. It’s a puzzle. Plot? Non-existent. The jokes? Screamingly unfunny. Rishi Kapoor doing ‘su-su’, singing ‘aiyi-aiyi-aiyi’? Groan. When will grown men wanting to urinate stop becoming an acceptable gag in Bollywood? Can someone solve this? This team consists of team leader Nikhil (Jaideep Ahlawat), the congenial Amit (Aakash Dahiya), the short-tempered Sunny (Shadab Kamal) aka ‘challengera,’ the blonde-haired Sanjay (Jatin Sarna) aka ‘Foreigner’, the guy-in-love Gagan (Vansh Bhardwaj) and the level-headed Rahul (Chandrachoor Rai). How this small time criminals get in to kidnapping in order to fulfill their dream forms the crux of the story. Performance wise Jaideep Ahlawat is simply outstanding as he looks so natural and intense at the same time. After his dynamic act in 'Gabbar Is Back', he proved his mettle as versatile actor once again. But sadly rest of the cast is a mix bag; Mukul Dev looks tired and God knows why is he there in the film at first place, Nushrat Barucha looks clueless, Vansh Bharadwaj and Jatin Sharma are dceent and Akaash Dahiya again delivers an honest act. Rest of the cast is not bad. Film has similar aspiration as GOW plot wise but then film tries too hard to be quirky without any emotional depth or character sketches. Film has super tight editing by Ashish Gaikar who keeps the proceeding fast. Music is below par. Cinematography is good and production design is real.
Director Zeishan Quadri surprisingly falters as writer though he has done quite a decent job as director. He is also letdown by mix bag of actors. Film will release tomorrow and it will need super reviews in order to score against big release 'Katti Batti'. Though it will not be a huge hit but this sort of brave effort should get eyeballs.
Go for this one if you like your cinema to be different yet entertaining! | |
