MASTRAM Grows Marginally But Rest New Releases TankLast weekend at least 7 Bollywood and couple of regional films in addition to one Hollywood film released in cinemas. Call this suicide by producers or lack of common sense, this scenario will affect exhibitors and makers adversely with dismal numbers on the card.
As expected, Viacom 18 release ''Manjunath'' was washout and film managed only 5 lakhs all India on Friday followed by almost similar number on Saturday and Sunday. Film collected almost 13-15 lakhs over weekend.
PVR Pictures release ''Khwaab'' was worst of all and managed even poorer 1.5 lakh all India on Friday and 1.25 lakh on Saturday. Film collected less than 8-10 lakhs over weekend.
''Koyelaanchal'' was poor all over and collected dismal 1.25 cr nett over weekend. Film will not cross 3 cr nett lifetime. Disaster!
''Yeh Hai Bakrapur'' got acclaim among critics but that did not translate into numbers on day one and Saturday was similar story. Film collected close to 40 lakhs over weekend and was appreciated among niche audience.
''Mastram'' was expected to do better among trade but it never had chance to be honest. Film had dismal day one despite wide release and collected 40 lakhs on day one and only marginal improvement on Saturday. Film added 60 lakhs on Saturday taking 2 day total to 1 cr nett. Film added 1 cr nett on Sunday. Film collected 2 cr nett over weekend but despite good growth film remained poor over weekend.
All in all it was bloodshed at box office and too many small films meant all bearing losses.
