Aamir’s Statements About Moving Out Of India Get A Backlash

Tuesday, 24th Nov 2015, 3:09 PM IST Yesterday, at Ram Nath Goenka Awards for excellence in Journalism in India, superstar Aamir Khan spoke up about the intolerance issue in India. He stated that his wife Kiran Rao recently asked him if they should leave India because of the "insecure environment" in the country. While Aamir’s statement has been supported by a few, he has mostly faced a backlash from politicians as well as from Bollywood celebs. Aamir stated, "For the first time Kiran has spoken about moving out of the country. She fears for her child. That is a disastrous and a big statement for Kiran to make to me. She feels scared to open the newspapers everyday. That does indicate there's a growing despondency apart from alarm. You feel depressed, low, why is this happening. That does exist in me. India's social fabric is not at its best right now. I am certainly alarmed. I feel there is a sense of insecurity, fear. It has been growing over the last six months. For any society a sense of security is a must." The superstar further stated, "Historians, scientists have had a view to express. Returning awards is one way of getting your point across. I will endorse any protest that is non-violent. Why should I represent anyone? If I have to represent someone why only Muslims, why not everyone? My birth may be in a Muslim household, but when I speak, I speak for everyone." Well, because of all these statements, the ‘PK’ star has faced a lot of backlash. And one such person to go against Aamir’s statement is his ‘Dil’ co-star Anupam Kher. In his several tweets, Kher said, “Dear @aamir_khan. Did you ask Kiran which country would she like to move out to? Did you tell her that this country has made you AAMIR KHAN. Dear @aamir_khan. Did you tell Kiran that you have lived through more worse times in this country & but you never thought of moving out. Dear @aamir_khan. When did ‘Incredible India’ become ‘Intolerant India’ for you? Only in the last 7-8 months? #AtithiDevoBhavah. Dear @aamir_khan Presumed country has become #Intolerant. Wat do u suggest 2 millions of Indians? Leave India? Or wait till regime changes? Dear @aamir_khan. #SatyamevaJayate u talked about evil practices but gave Hope. So even in ‘Intolerant’ times u need 2 spread Hope not Fear.” Paresh Rawal tweeted, “Aamir is a fighter so he should not leave but change the situation in the country ! jeena yahan marna yahan ! A true patriot will not run away n leave his motherland behind in turmoil or in troubled times (if any )...don't escape - build it .. If I believe this is my motherland then I will never talk about leaving it ....but I would if I had believed otherwise ... Intolerance !PK did rattle the belief of Hindus but Aamir dint face the wrath of Hindu or THE MAJORITY n but was super hit n made crores ! Thanks Aamir for taking away nations attention from Lalu -arvinds jaadu ki jhappi ! It's a joke so be tolerant !” Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, “Aamir Khan safe here, his remarks an insult to his fans in India.” Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said, “You can't reduce people like Aamir and Shah Rukh Khan to one community or a particular point of view. They are speaking as individuals who really have shown over the years tremendous concern and patriotism for country.” Rishi Kapoor tweeted, “Mr and Mrs Aamir Khan. When things are going wrong and the system needs correction, repair it,mend it.Don't run away from it. That is Heroism.” Now you can enjoy ad-free experience by downloading India’s first Box Office mobile app from here –Android: http://bit.ly/BOCapsuleMobileApp and iOS: bit.ly/BOCapsuleiOSApp |
