Tuesday, 22nd Dec 2015, 7:09 PM IST This might come as a surprising news for everyone that a politician believes that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is worthy receiving ‘Maharashtra Bhushan' award for making ‘Bajirao Mastani’. The movie has been battling a lot of controversies in the country. On Monday, Congress leader Nitesh N. Rane asked the state government to confer Sanjay Leela Bhansali with ‘Maharashtra Bhushan' award. Rane said, "With 'Bajirao Mastani', Bhansali has succeeded in making Peshwa Bajirao I a household name. That's his greatest contribution to Maharashtra." In his letter to CM Devendra Fadnavis, Rane said, "It's a huge contribution by Bhansali. He has made Peshwa Bajirao a household name." Bharatiya Janata Party activists had protested against the film due to which a few shows in Pune were cancelled. Talking about it, Rane said, "If the same BJP government could honour Babasaheb Purandare with a 'Maharashtra Bhushan' though he had distorted Maratha history, then Bhansali definitely deserves the honour for highlighting the Peshwas' glory."
