Detailed Analysis: Rohit Shetty made some big hits films like 'Chennai Express', 'Singham' and 'Golmaal' series. He makes films for masses and never cares for reviews. After Rajkumar Hirani he has most impeccable record at box office. Now he is back with most magical pair SRK - Kajol along with youth sensation Varun Dhawan, can you ask for more!
The film tells story of Kaali/Raj (Shahrukh Khan) who has younger brother Veer (Varun Dhawan). Veer is in love with Ishita (Kriti Sanon) but they are not aware of troubled past of Raj who used to be Kaali and had an affair with Meera (Kajol). He used to be a dreaded criminal Kaali and his father (Vinod Khanna) was a criminal too. Meera's father (Kabir Bedi) used to be at loggerheads with Kaali's father and this love couple's love life goes through hell due to a confusion and some twists in pasts. How Veer and Ishita (Meera's sister) bring them together forms the rest of the story. The pace of the film is amazing throughout like most Rohit Shetty film. 1st song 'Manmaa Emotion Jaage' sets the pace and 'Gerua' before interval is outstanding on big screen. 2nd half is pacy and has some good 3 - 4 amazing sequences i.e. 'Janam Janam' song and flash back of SRK - Kajol. But yes, the chemistry of lead pair will be talked about again and it was greeted with whistles even in multiplexes. Performance wise Shahrukh Khan carries the film on his shoulder and his dialogue delivery is bang on. But its Kajol who walks away with best act of the film as her chemistry with SRK is out of the world. Varun Dhawan manages to bring freshness and infectious energy in every frame. Kriti Sanon is charming. Sanjay Mishra and Varun Sharma have few funny scenes but Johnny Lever and Boman Irani are strictly average. Kabir Khan and Vinod Khanna are average in the film. Chetna Pande, Pankaj Tripathi and Mukesh Tiwari have not much to do in the film. Film has average screenplay and dialogues are good but at times lack edge especially funny ones. Film has razor sharp editing by Bunty Negi. Music is good as couple of songs look really good on big screen. Cinematography is superb, production design is good and costumes are apt. Background score is below par.
Director Rohit Shetty has done good job with this one but to be honest he was gifted with presence of such sizzling lead pair and budget. Biggest issue with the film is underutilisation of Varun Dhawan as he gets very limited scenes. Also his grip on comic scenes seems loose and even placement of songs are bit odd. But he succeeds in presenting a superb family entertainer. Film will release today and it will get good to average reviews but it will get very good opening due to star power but will not be a blockbuster opening due to clash. Film might suffer in Mumbai/Gujarat due to clash and some other controversies surrounding Shahrukh. Film should have 75 cr nett plus weekend in India but whether it holds in long run for over next 20 days is tough question to answer.
Go for this one for most romantic lead pair and loads of clean family entertainment ! |
