SINGH IS BLIING Has Neither Any Plot Nor Entertainment Quotient
Pluses: Akshay Kumar is fantastic as complete package, Lara Dutta is funny, very well shot, couple of good songs, funny dialogues Minuses:
Amy Jackson as plastic as it gets, poor writing, bad editing, climax is a mess, Prabhu Deva seems clueless
Critic Rating: 2.5/5
Business Rating: 3.5/5
Verdict:
Watch it for only and only Akshay Kumar
Detailed Analysis: Prabhu Deva started his career with a bang in Bollywood with hits like 'Rowdy Rathore' and 'R...Rajkumar'. Then he gave a big dud in 'Action Jackson' and now he is back with 'Singh Is Bliing'.
Rishi Kapoor plays a Mr Bhalla, who runs a bakery in a hill station called Kasol. He is never seen to be baking anything. All he does is to yell and shout at his wife, and sonny boy Inder (played by Supriya Pathak and Abhishek Bachchan, respectively). Why? That’s a mystery. Ms Pathak is to be found in an ‘ashram’, looking vacantly about. Abhishek switches locations from a Bangkok poolside with bikinied babes to the winding roads of Kasol, where he encounters college-mate Nimmi (Asin, colourless) who has feelings for him. Why anyone would have a tender spot for someone as indifferent as Inder is an even bigger mystery. Up pops a long-haired goon called Cheema who’s only job is to twirl a gun, and threaten people. Why the talented Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub took on this thankless part is a … yes, you got that. It’s a puzzle. Plot? Non-existent. The jokes? Screamingly unfunny. Rishi Kapoor doing ‘su-su’, singing ‘aiyi-aiyi-aiyi’? Groan. When will grown men wanting to urinate stop becoming an acceptable gag in Bollywood? Can someone solve this? It’s always good to see Supriya Pathak, but when will someone come up with a substantial part for her? - See more at: http://indianexpress.com/article/entertainment/movie-review/all-is-well-movie-review-abhishek-bachchan-asin/#sthash.7CQEWPe9.dpufRishi Kapoor plays a Mr Bhalla, who runs a bakery in a hill station called Kasol. Emily's intentional wrong translations however lead to comedy of errors. Romance starts brewing between Raftaar and Sara, when Raftaar sees Sara beating down the villains with her bare hands, while Sara notices the good natured, loving and caring side of Raftaar. Raftaar also helps unite Sara's parents and bring her family together. However, just when things seem to be going uphill, the evil Mark finds Sara and threatens to kill her family is she doesn't marry him. Will Sara be able to protect her family, does she really love Raftaar Singh, will Raftaar manage to win the love of his life, this all forms the rest of the story. Performance wise Akshay Kumar is complete package, he makes you laugh, dances well and emotes like a seasoned actor. Lara Dutta is funny. Amy Jackson is irritating with one emotion throughout and Kay Kay Menon hams. Anil Mange and Arif Lamba are funny. Film has no screenplay and wafer thin storyline. Film has such an inconsistent editing by Steven Bernard. Music isaverage as songs work like loo break though couple of them are hits. Cinematography is good and production design is perfect.
Director Prabhu Deva fails to deliver a film which entertains. It has funny one liners but there is no plot, no conflict and no sense but nonsense in 2nd half. First half is bearable due to comic factor but drama in 2nd half is unbearable. Film released today and it will get good to excellent opening due to national holiday but it will face competition from 'Talwar', 'Puli' and 'The Martian'. Though it will be a huge hit over weekend but it will struggle in long run due to not so great reviews.
Go for this one if you are Akshay Kumar die hard fan! |
