Tuesday, 31st Mar 2015, 4:24 PM IST Few days ago, Salman Khan had recorded his statement in the 2002 hit-and-run case. The superstar had stated that it was his driver, Ashok Singh, who was driving the car when the accident took place. Recently, Singh confirmed Salman’s statement. When Salman’s lawyer asked Singh about it, he said, "A tyre burst and the car was dragged to the left... I tried to turn the steering wheel but it was hard, then I tried to apply brakes but by then the car had climbed the stairs of the bakery. I was in a state of shock and Salman was sitting on the left side. He tried to open the door but it got jammed. He got down from my side which was on the right.” He further added that another driver Altaf called him and told him to pick up Salman from J W Marriot hotel. Singh reached at the hotel and took Salman from there. After the accident, he called up 100 and went to Bandra police station and informed him about the accident. He was told to sit on a bench outside the police station. Then when Salman came to police station he was arrested. Public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat blamed Ashok for giving false statements as he has been promised to be paid a huge amount for it. To the questions of prosecutor, Singh said that though he was devoted to the Khan family, he would not sacrifice his life for Salman. When Singh was asked why he kept silent for so many years, he said that he didn’t know what he should do. Later, when Salim Khan (Salman’s dad) told him to speak, he spoke. The court has been adjourned till tomorrow.
