Monday, 4th May 2015, 5:06 PM IST Sonam Kapoor starrer ‘Neerja’ started rolling last week in a studio in Mumbai. The look of the actress has been revealed. Sonam will be seen playing the role of Neerja Banot, the Pan Am flight attendant who was killed while trying to save passengers during a hijack. Neerja was awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India's most prestigious gallantry award for bravery during peace time. In 2010, the civil aviation ministry of India conferred another honour on the occasion of the launch of the celebrations of the centenary of Indian aviation. The US Department of Justice also honoured Neerja and the other attendants with the Special Courage Award. A stamp was released in 2004 commemorating her, and a square in Ghatkopar (a suburb in Mumbai) is named after her. Sonam said, "There are times in an actor's career when a special role in a special film comes your way. This biopic is one such role. I feel honoured and humbled to get the opportunity to essay the role of India's youngest Ashoka Chakra awardee." The makers have not yet revealed whether Neerja's family is involved in the project, however a source said that they have `okayed' the script and even helped to develop her character. The ill-fated Pan American flight 73 has been recreated in Film City, where the shooting will take place for next few months. Ram said, "Making Neerja is an emotional journey for all of us. The best part is that I've the nicest people with me on this. It could not have got better.” Now you can enjoy ad-free experience by downloading India’s first Box Office mobile app from here –Android: http://bit.ly/BOCapsuleMobileApp and iOS: bit.ly/BOCapsuleiOSApp |
