Wednesday, 14th May 2014, 02:30 PM IST The Bombay High Court has called for a stay order on the release of Manish Gupta’s film ‘Rahasya’ which seems to be based on the Aarushi Talwar murder case. The decision was taken after Nupur and Rajesh Talwar, the main accused in the case, who are also parents of the victim, claimed that the film is based on distorted facts.
Neha Mehta, the Talwars' counsel says, “We have seen the film and the many resemblances might hamper someone's right to a fair trial.” There are two main similarities in the film and the real case viz;the parents of the murdered girl in the film are doctors and just like in real life, the girl is murdered along with her servant.
A source close to the film said that the similarities are minor, as in the film the parents are surgeons and not dentists like the Talwars. The source also pointed out that the protagonist in the film is shown to be 19 years old, unlike Aarushi who was 14 at the time of her murder. And most importantly, the film does not end with the parents being held guilty by a court. In fact, the killer in the film is the girl's stepmother. Not to mention, the servant in the film is a 22-year old but Hemraj– the other victim – was 45. Moreover, the reel servant's body is found after a month unlike Hemraj's which was found a day after Aarushi's body.
Another source says, “Manish has just made minor tweaks to keep his film within the realm of fiction. But even the trial proceedings shown in the film resemble the developments which took place in the murder trial.” However, the Talwars are uncomfortable with the tweaks as the film shows the father to be the main suspect in the film. They claim that this might lead to a public perception that Rajesh Talwar is guilty.Vandana Talwar told a popular daily, “We don't want ‘Rahasya’ to see the light of day until the matter is disposed completely.” |
