Fake Buzz Versus Real Buzz Around A Film
| ||
Gone are the days when a film would work only on the merit of its cinematic quality. Today, whether a movie is successful at the box office also depends on how many eyeballs it grabbed, thereby luring the audience to the theaters. No wonder, nowadays creating a buzz about the film is very important; and that’s why, filmmakers leave no stone unturned in creating a buzz about their movies… so what if they have to create fake buzz for it. Promotions have become an important part of a movie’s pre-release activities. The actors, producers and directors are seen promoting their film at their best. Sometimes, to promote the films and to pull the audiences to the theatres, a lot of fake news are created and a lot of fake statements are given. For example, Shahid Kapoor starrer ‘Haider’, which recently hit the screens, had grabbed news headlines long time ago with one of the most controversial news. There were reports that there will be an intimate scene in the film between Shahid and his onscreen step-mom in the film, Tabu. It was stated that the movie will showcase Oedipus complex. However, there was nothing like that in the movie. While, some filmmakers try to make fool of the audiences by creating fake buzz, we also have filmmakers who create a genuine buzz about their film and the biggest example of it is ‘Queen’. From the day the film was announced, every report about the film stated that we will get to see Kangana Ranaut in a never-seen-before avatar; and indeed, it was a surprise for us to see this new side of Kangana. The movie also proved that the buzz created during the film promotions were true! Just a few days ago, we had reported that there some critics who give false reviews just to get their names published on the posters of the film. Well, this is again fake buzz. This give-and-take relationship between the makers and critics surely create a good fake buzz. A lot of horrible films are given an impressive rating like 3.5 and 4, though they don’t even deserve a 1-star rating. This fake buzz makes moviegoers waste their money on some really disastrous movies. However, there are many critics who give genuine reviews – be it for a good film, or a bad one. Well, fake buzz doesn’t stop at fake news and reviews, it extends to declaring fake box-office collection as well. And one of the biggest examples of fake buzz about the collection of the movie is ‘Krrish 3’. The movie released during Diwali last year and the makers had stated that the film has collected Rs. 500cr worldwide which actually was a fake number. Later on, it was revealed that the movie has collected an amount that is quite less in comparison to what was hyped. While, these kinds of fake buzz is created for the collection, there are many films that genuinely get great reviews but fail to do a good business at the box-office and are stated to be as commercially flop. But, those filmmakers are proud of their films and don’t mind taking the flop tag as they are happy with the critical response. This year we saw many Bollywood women-centric film had hit the screens and became successful, but unfortunately Vidya Balan starrer ‘Bobby Jasoos’ failed to make a mark at the box-office. However, the movie gut thumbs up from the critics and the makers of the film were happy with the response. |
