Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt scored century with '2 States', Varun Dhawan scored 50 cr nett plus with 'Main Tera Hero' and then star son Tiger Shroff starrer 'Heropanti' made big money at box office with his debut film itself! 'Jai Ho' failed to live upto the expectations and it was 'Gunday' which proved to be the big earner in 1st quarter. But it was sleeper hit of the year 'Queen' and horrex 'Ragini MMS 2' which surprised one and all with excellent numbers. Then Akshay Kumar came back after disappointing 2013 and 'Holiday - A Soldier Is Never Off Duty' made killing over weekend followed by equally good 'Humshakals'. And another surprise package is ruling the roost in overseas market. 'Ek Villain' took a superb start in overseas market and crossed lifetime business of 'Holiday' and 'Humshakals' in UK in just two days. Film collected huge $ 22,10,000 over weekend which is 3rd best in year 2014, only behind 'Jai Ho' and '2 States'. Now 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania' scored good $12,25,000 over weekend and that was best 8th opening of 2014. Film slightly underperformed in overseas market. Now new big release 'Kick' starring Salman Khan scored rather average numbers at box office in overseas market. Film collected 3 million $ (18 cr) which was 2nd best opening of the year 2014 behind another Salman Khan starrer 'Jai Ho'. Film underperformed due to Pre Eid period effect in Pakistan and Middle east. Akshay Kumar starrer 'Entertianment' was not expected to take big start and film collected only 8 cr nett plus ($13,92,054) over weekend which was 9th best opening of the year. Ajay Devgn starrer 'Singham Returns' was Independence Day release and film also scored big in overseas market. Film collected 2.47 million $ over weekend which is 4th best of 2014. Film is one of the bigger openers for Ajay Devgn. Priyanka Chopra starrer 'Mary Kom' released with much expectations and managed 12th best opening in overseas over weekend in 2014. Film collected $ 1.2 million (7.2 cr INR) over weekend and should collect around 13 cr during lifetime run. Next niche film 'Finding Fanny' had decent weekend in overseas and collected 1.6 million $ over weekend which was 10th best for the year 2014. Despite big names and wide release, film failed to notch up big numbers. There was interesting clash on 19th September and both films for different target audience scores rather average figures overseas. 'Khoobsurat' lead the clash battle and scored 1.5 million $ (9 cr) over weekend which was 11th best in 2014. 'Daawat E Ishq' scored in UAE with overseas numbers of 1 million $ over weekend and that was 16th best in 2014. October 2nd release Hrithik - Katrina starrer 'Bang Bang' proved game changer and with wide distribution of Fox Star, film managed to collect huge 6.9 million dollar over extended 4 day weekend (3 day weekend figure was 4.15 million $). This was by far the biggest weekend in overseas market in 2014. On the other hand other release, 'Haider' managed modest figure of 1.3 million dollar which was good considering its genre. Then came the big Diwali release 'Happy New Year' and as expected, Shahrukh Khan starrer 'Happy New Year' collected 7.25 million dollar (44.30 cr nett) over weekend which was highest ever in 2014 and 2nd best of all time. This was termed just good for a SRK starrer as his film should have collected at least 20% more. But it was last big release of the year 2014 'PK', hich managed to bag top spot as it crossed HNY with slim margin over weekend.
