Special Series : Best Of 2015
| |
2015 saw many Bollywood films which not only ruled the box-office, but also had a very good concept. The year has proved that mainstream Bollywood films can also be content-driven. Superstars failed at times and women centric films ruled. Sooraj Barjatya- Salman Khan combo failed to live up to the hype and Shahrukh - Kajol combo looked jaded at box office. Anushka ('NH 10'), Deepika ('Piku'), Kangana (TWMR) made impact at ticket windows. Salman has to shed his typical image of rowdy carefree man to sensitive patriot in order to win audience. Ranveer Singh arrived with surprise success of 'Bajirao Mastani' and Varun proved his mettle with 'Badlapur'. Nawazuddin was best actor in 'Manjhi', best villain in 'Badlapur' and best supporting actor in 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' - in short he is on dream run. Kangana gave such a big hit that it sent shockwaves among her contemporaries who are always in news more for their 'chemistry', 'affair' and tweets.
Here’s our list of top five mainstream films of 2015:
5) ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’:
Directed by Aanand L Rai, ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ was a sequel to 2011 release ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ and was probably only a sequel which was equal to if not better than prequel. The film starred Kangana Ranaut in double role along with R Madhavan. The movie was a perfect example of an entertaining film backed by good concept as well as good direction. And yes special mention for Deepak Dobariyal and Zeeshan Ayub, killer stuff!
4) ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’:
After ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, Kabir Khan and Salman Khan came together for ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. The movie which saw Salman in a totally new avatar touched the right chords because of its emotional backdrop and the Pakistan and India angle in it. And above all was Harshaali Malhotra’s innocent but impressive performance. Thus Salman crossed 300 cr nett domestic barrier only 2nd to Aamir Khan.
3) ‘Baby’:
Like ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘Baby’ also had a good director-actor jodi – Neeraj Pandey and Akshay Kumar.‘Baby’ is unquestionably one of the best films of 2015. It was well crafted and a perfect edge-of-the-seat thriller. Akshay’s acting was one of the biggest positive elements of the film and probably his career best.
2) ‘Badlapur’:
‘Badlapur’ is one of the best revenge dramas made in current times. Sriram Raghavan’s direction, Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s amazing performance got the film at the second spot in our list. Huma Qureshi and Radhika Apte deserve special mention. 1) ‘Dum Laga KeHaisha’:
‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ was a film we never expected from a production house like YRF.The small film with a fat leading lady won many hearts. The movie had a very good storyline and without being preachy explained how a person’s heart is more important than his/her look. Sharat Katariya made an exceptional directorial debut and YRF got a much awaited hit. 'Moh Moh Ke Dhaage' was one of the best songs of the year if not the best. There were some other notable films too that we got to see in 2015 – ‘Piku’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’,‘Drishyam’, ‘NH10’ and ‘Phantom’. |
