While in 2015 many content-driven films left their mark at the box-office, there were a few films which were ignored by the audiences. The films had a very good storyline, received amazing reviews and few of them also won awards at many film festivals across the world, but unfortunately their box-office collections were dismal.
We call them the most underrated films of the year. While some were biopics, some had a good message behind the entertaining narration. However, these movies failed to attract the audiences and pull them to the theatres.
Here’s the list of top 5 underrated films of 2015:
5)‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy’:
Dibaker Banerjee’s ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy’ was one of the most anticipated films of the year. Starring Sushant Singh Rajput, the film received extremely positive reviews, but sadly the period mystery flick failed to get the audience strotting to the theatres and only collected Rs. 33.83 cr. However, Sushant’sacting and Dibaker’s direction was up to the mark and now, even a sequel of the film is on cards.
4)‘Tamasha’:
Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Tamasha’ had everything that could make it a blockbuster – a super hit jodi, good music and Imtiaz’s unique style of storytelling. However, we still don’t know what went wrong that a film which deserved to earn a lot more at the box-office only collected Rs. 68 cr. With an apparent budget of 70 cr,the movie was ultimately declared a flop.
3)‘Manjhi The Mountain Man’:
Aftertasting success with ‘Badlapur’ and ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, Nawazuddin Siddiqui was back on the big screen as a solo hero in Ketan Mehta’s ‘Manjhi The Mountain Man’. The movie was based on Dashrat Manjhi and the biopic was immensely praised by critics. Nawaz and Radhika Apte’s chemistry was the highpoint of the film. However, unfortunately, the biopic, which was a love story at heart, failed to get the audiences to the theatre possibly because of the online leak of the entire film before its release. The film disappointing earned Rs. 15.53 cr at the box-office.
2)‘Rahasya’:
Manish Gupta’s ‘Rahasya’ which was based on Aarushi Talwar murder case was released without any promotion. And that proved to be a very big negative point for such an amazing film. ‘Rahasya’ is surely one of the best thrillers of the year, but the collection of the film was not at all impressive. The movie released and was pulled out of the theatre soon without any notice. Tisca Chopra and Kay Kay Menon’s performance in the film was praised a lot. The movie only collected Rs.97 lakhs.
1) ‘Qissa’: ‘Qissa’ starring Irrfan Khan and Tisca Chopra is the most sensible film made in 2015. The movie which tackled the issue of sex identity crisis won many awards at film festivals. But, the masterpiece was ignored once it was theatrically released. One of the reasons for the film’s poor collection would be the promotion which was extremely low. |
