Saturday, 30th August 2014, 02:39 PM IST Director Homi Adajania’s Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor starrer ‘Finding Fanny’ has created a lot of buzz in tinsel town, And now we hear, the movie will soon be available in the form of a novel.
Homi and his co-writer Kersi Khambatta wrote over 200 pages from his short story of ‘Finding Fanny’ and they later used parts of it to create the screenplay. Said the director, “It's been quite a bizarre process because my co-writer Kersi Khambatta wrote an entire 200-plus page novel from my short story of ‘Finding Fanny’ and then we cannibalized the novel to develop the screenplay. My only issue was that I told him to keep it on ice until the film was out.”
However, the director will not release the book as he wants people to watch his film first. He reasons, “Because I prefer reading a book over watching a film! And I wanted people to watch my film first. Now that the film is coming out Kersi can pimp it around to publishers. It's a damn funny read and way more convoluted than the script is.”
Writer Kersi said, “The screenplay of ‘Finding Fanny’ was fleshed out entirely in novel form before being adapted for screenplay. This unorthodox method gave us lots of colour, description and detail to play with, which eventually lent itself to a fatter and fuller screenplay as well. We did not actively pursue the publication of the novel at the time, because our main motive was making the movie first, over everything else. Now that that's done, Harpers and Collins have expressed an interest in reading the original manuscript of the novel to see if there is potential for a book, after all.” |
